Well we had a brief window of fine weather so we took the Putney out on her maiden voyage.

The voyage started out with nice calm water and the eight HP motor was more than enough power to push the Putney along.  Time goes nowhere, and we found ourselves at quite some distance from the launch ramp. In the distance we noticed rain clouds rapidly starting to appear, the winds came up and we thought a hasty retreat was needed.  A swell started up but the Putney rode the waves well and we felt confident all the way back.  I'm thrilled to bits with the Putney.

This year I ordered a Putney dinghy from Max Laver. This boat was exhibited at the 2014 Auckland on Water Boat Show and was much admired.  I have now taken delivery of her and am delighted with her performance.  I and my crew of three are all in our seventies and been keen boaties in the past, so it was important to me that the dinghy should be as seaworthy as possible.

The weather has been until now, so bad that we had not been able to take the boat out.   However finally we set off up the Puhoi river to Puhoi and back to Wenderholm.  The trip took two and a half hours.  Granted this was in sheltered waters but we were all impressed with the boat's stability and buoyancy.   In a chop, her high dory like bow handled the spray well on our return. When ever anyone sees the boat she receives a lot of admiring comments with her lovely lines, teak deck style thwarts and the high standard of finish.
